My three favorite tea rooms in Prague

Ville touristique par excellence, Prague offre à ses visiteurs quelques lieux hors du temps pour prendre un thé.

Touristic city by excellence, Prague offers visitors some places timeless to rest and have tea.

A Prague, même si l’on prend des chemins de traverse pour échapper aux flux des touristes, on repasse souvent au même endroit pour mieux admirer un détail d’architecture ou jeter un coup d’œil dans une boutique qu’on a aperçue sans y entrer ou qu’on a visitée sans pouvoir se décider et qui nécessite qu’on y revienne pour la troisième ou quatrième fois. Des conditions qui nécessitent que l’on ait quelques points de chute pour se reposer et prendre un thé.

In Prague, even if you take back roads to avoid the flow of tourists, you go back often to the same places to admire an architectural detail, take a look at a store that you have just glimpsed or that you have yet visited to buy something without being able to decide what you wanted. So you need to have some drop points to rest and have tea.

Mes trois haltes préférées à Prague se trouvent à proximité l’une de l’autre. Je commencerai par l’incontournable Maison Municipale, place Namesti Republisky. Ce bâtiment Art nouveau fait partie de l’histoire de Prague puisque c’est depuis son balcon qu’a été proclamée officiellement en 1918 la création de la première République tchécoslovaque. La Maison Municipale qui comprend la salle de concert Smetana dispose aussi d’un restaurant, le « Restaurant français », dans lequel on peut prendre un thé l’après-midi. Sa très belle salle évoque les fastes d’antan. Ne pas se mettre trop près du piano.

My three favorite stops in Prague are close to each other. I will stard with the inevitable Municipal House, on Namesti Republisky. This Art nouveau building is part of the Prague history. In 1918, the creation of the firts Czechoslovak Republic was proclaimed from its balcony. The Municipal House includes the Smetana concert hall and has a restaurant, the « French Restaurant », where you can have tea in the afternoon. This beautiful room evokes the splendor of yesteryear. Don’t get too close to the piano.

Tout à côté, l‘Hôtel Paris construit en 1904 et, lui-aussi, Art nouveau ne manque pas de charme. Pour le thé, vous irez au Café Paris sympathique mais moins luxueux que le Restaurant Sarah Bernhardt.

Nearby, you can find the Paris Hotel built in 1904. This Art nouveau building charms the visitors. For tea, you will go to the Paris Cafe. It is nice too but less luxurious than the Sarah Bernhardt Restaurant.

Enfin non loin de là, l’Hôtel Art Deco Imperial possède un magnifique café.

Finally, a short distance away, the Art Deco Imperial Hotel has a wonderful cafe.

Entièrement habillé de céramiques, il offre un magnifique spectacle avec ses colonnes qui jalonnent l’espace.

Completly covered with ceramics, it offers a beautiful sight with its columns.

Fascinée par le décor, j’aurais pu le contempler sans me soucier de ce que l’on me servait. Mais j’y ai en outre dégusté un savoureux strudel.

Fascinated by the scene, I could have contemplated it without worrying about what was served to me. But I tasted a delicious strudel.
